Hamburg Airport Halts Flights Because of Family Hostage Situation

According to a Hamburg Police spokeswoman, all flights to and from Hamburg Airport have been suspended as of Sunday morning local time while German authorities work to “relieve” a hostage situation at the heart of a “family drama.”

According to the spokeswoman, a 35-year-old man drove his car through airport security on Saturday and parked underneath an aircraft. The representative said that the driver and his 4-year-old daughter were remained in the car as of Sunday at midnight.

According to the spokesperson, there are “substantial amounts of special forces” on the ground attempting to end the hostage situation. The woman had already alerted Hamburg-Stade authorities to her child’s disappearance.

The spokeswoman claimed that after he parked his car on the tarmac, he heard what might have been gunshots. A gangway allowed the passengers to exit the airplane without incident.

On Saturday night, the airport’s official website declared that all aircraft have been grounded because of a significant police operation.
