After the triumph of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, everything is possible. Just two weeks have passed since Mario and Luigi made their return to the big screen in the most recent Illumination version of the popular Nintendo video game, but the film has already established itself as one of the year’s greatest box office hits, and it looks like it will continue to shatter records.

Super Mario held onto the top place at the box office for its second weekend and is expected to do so again this week after surpassing Frozen 2 as the highest opening weekend for an animated film in cinema history. The movie has already outperformed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in terms of box office earnings, yet it hasn’t even been released in Japan, where Nintendo is extremely well-liked.

Fans are naturally eager for a sequel to continue the adventures of the plumber, but they are also curious as to if additional Nintendo games will be adapted for the big screen following this critical and commercial success. It also appears that it will.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the developer of the popular video game series, stated in an interview with the Japanese website Nihon Keizai Shimbun that there is “no doubt” that other adaptations will follow. Therefore, fans may anticipate the release of some further Nintendo franchises in the future.

The Legend of Zelda takes third position on the podium, behind Pokemon and Mario, two of Nintendo’s most well-known franchises. When asked which upcoming adaptation they want to see, this is undoubtedly the crowd favorite.

Zelda chronicles the brave exploits of the youthful warrior Link, who must overcome obstacles and work out puzzles in order to aid Princess Zelda in taking down Ganondorf and preserving his native country of Hyrule.

It could be challenging for Illumination to create a separate movie for the same property because Warner Bros. Discovery is already developing a second Detective Pikachu film for the Pokemon series. Therefore, it can take some time for them to complete any relevant projects.

Another excellent option is to create Super Mario Bros. spin-offs, and Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong is the ideal figure for this. It has a wide variety of games with him as the protagonist that may be utilized as inspiration for a movie, and the character was one of the most beloved by fans in the film.
