Edinson Cavani’s scoring record for PSG is broken by Mbappe

With his 201st goal against Nantes in Ligue 1 on Saturday, Kylian Mbappe passed Edinson Cavani to become Paris Saint-all-time Germain’s leading scorer, adding another another milestone to his already record-filled career.

In extra time, the French forward scored PSG’s fourth goal to seal a 4-2 victory and the record.

After the final buzzer, the club held a brief ceremony during which a large photograph of Mbappe was on display at Parc des Princes.

“Being here is quite unique. It’s an honor to come here as the club’s leading scorer; the last time I came here, I announced that I was staying [to extend my contract] “Mbappe stated.

Being a PSG player and representing the best club in France while wearing this historic jersey is an honor.

In a lot less games, Mbappe, 24, overtook Cavani’s record. Mbappe required just 247 games to reach 200 goals, compared to 301 for the Uruguayan.

Mbappe, a native of Paris, transferred from Monaco to PSG in 2017 for a then-record transfer price of €180 million for a youngster.

There have been several issues throughout his stint at Parc des Princes. When he finally agreed to a three-year contract extension in May, a lengthy on-and-off transfer crisis involving Real Madrid eroded his relationship with the supporter base.

Mbappe won the World Cup Golden Boot in December after leading the league in goals scored in Qatar with eight, including the second-ever hat trick in a World Cup final.

Mbappe, who helped France win the World Cup in 2018 but lost to Argentina on penalties, now has 12 goals in all competitions, only four fewer than Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who now holds the record.
