For the Los Angeles Lakers and their revamped roster, devastating news about LeBron James’ injury arrived just as things were becoming comfortable.

James suffered a foot and ankle injury on his right foot during Sunday’s comeback victory over the Dallas Mavericks. He was able to continue in the game and performed really well, but he afterwards acknowledged that his foot was hurting and that he was clearly limping as he left the arena.

James was expected to just miss a short period of time, but on Monday night, it was revealed that there was concern inside the team that this would not be the case because of the severity of the injury.

James will undergo another evaluation in a few of weeks, and he will then choose when he can make a comeback based on where the Lakers are in the standings:

Even if it’s not ideal, the Lakers’ situation isn’t dire because it appears that James will be able to play again this year.

With a record of 29-32, the Lakers are now in 12th place in the Western Conference, so they have some work to do to return to the postseason conversation and will have to function without James for at least a few weeks.

The good news is that compared to before the trade deadline, the Lakers squad is considerably more prepared to play without James.

The Lakers will undoubtedly need Anthony Davis to step up and return to his MVP-caliber form. Nevertheless, he won’t have to go it alone since D’Angelo Russell, Dennis Schroder, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Rui Hachimura will assist give size on the wings while handling the ball.

For the next two weeks, the Lakers have eight games that will be crucial in shaping the course of this season.
