Manuel Neuer, disappointed by Bayern Munich’s decision
Badly injured in mid-December while skiing, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer received a blow from Bayern Munich, who fired the coach he had trained with for 11 years.
In a controversial interview, Neuer harshly criticized the club’s decision to fire Toni Tapalovic, the goalkeeping coach and the German international’s most trusted person, writes AS.com.
“That shot affected me a lot. I found out from the club officials. It came out of nowhere for both me and Toni. I didn’t understand and it really bothered me.
Toni was always one of us, for 11 and a half years he worked not only with me, but for the whole group of goalkeepers, for the coaches and for the club.
For me it was a blow, when I was already on the ground. I felt my heart break. It was the most brutal thing experienced in my career. Everyone in our group started crying when they found out. I think that says it all,” Neuer said.
On January 23, Toni Tapalovic was fired from the position of goalkeeping coach, due to different work views compared to other members of the staff, according to sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Manuel Neuer will be out for at least half a year after breaking his leg while skiing, with Bayern Munich already bringing in a replacement in Swiss Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach.
